Facebook Dismisses March 15 Shut Down Rumors

(CANVAS STAFF REPORTS) - The rumor of Facebook's demise is a bit premature.

A rumor that Facebook would close on March 15 spread quickly this weekend on Facebook and Twitter, as well as the blogs, but the company has come out to state that they have no intention of shutting down.

"The answer is no, so please help us put an end to this silliness," Larry Yu, director of corporate communications for Facebook, told Mashable . "We didn't get the memo about shutting down and there's lots to do, so we'll just keep cranking away like always."

Facebook also posted that they are staying in business on Twitter .

According to Mashable the rumor stated CEO Mark Zuckerberg "wants his old life back" and desires to "put an end to all of the madness." Read more at www.myfoxtwincities.com

ALAMEDA, Calif. -- The Oakland Raiders promoted offensive coordinator Hue Jackson to head coach Monday after he helped the team more than double its scoring output in his first year with the franchise.

Jackson will be formally introduced at a 4:15 p.m. ET news conference Tuesday -- two weeks after the Raiders announced they wouldn't pick up a contract option to keep coach Tom Cable.

"The fire in Hue will set a flame that will burn for a long time in the hearts and minds of the Raider football team and the Raider Nation," team owner Al Davis said in a statement.

Jackson was widely considered the leading contender to land the job as soon as the Raiders announced Cable's departure. This is Jackson's first head-coaching job at any level.
